APPLEWORKS SIMPLIFIED

MI am a technology coordinator in a school district that has several teachers O
Musing AppleWorks, and most of these teachers want to learn more about how to P
Nuse this program. The problem is that they are at different levels in their P
Nusage and understanding of AppleWorks. This makes it difficult to pull these L
Jteachers together in a workshop and offer something that interests all of
them.
II have found that Appleworks Simplified can help solve this problem. The P
Nprogram consists of fourteen taped lessons about Appleworks recorded on seven N
Lcassette tapes. In includes a set of cardboard overlays that fit over the Q
OApple keyboard with all of the AppleWorks commands listed for easy reference. O
MThe program provides a Works demo disk that has several templates set up to ~H
Fwork with as the learners go through the cassette tape lessons. The O
Mstudents pick out the cassette lesson they wish to work with and place it in I
Ga cassette recorder. They then load the AppleWorks program into their S
Qcomputer and place the Works demo disk in the data disk slot when called for. ~N
LThe cassette lessons take the students step by step though the functions of J
HAppleWorks and has the learners practice on the Works demo disk. The ~H
Fnarrator is very easy to listen to and the pacing is good. Using the N
Lcassette tape allows the learner to stop and back up to listen to part of a
lesson again.
GThe author is a business education teacher from a community college in N
LCalifornia, and he suggests that if you go through all the lessons you will ;
have between twenty-five and thirty hours of instruction.
GI used the programs this summer with teachers in a college class I was N
Lteaching on AppleWorks. I had three students who knew the word processing P
Napplication of AppleWorks and didn't need to listen to my instruction on that N
Lsubject. While I was introducing the rest of the students to AppleWorks, I N
Llet these three students choose the lessons they wanted to work with. They N
Lwent through the database and spreadsheet lessons. All were impressed with <
the tapes and felt it was a great way to learn AppleWorks.
KBecause the program divides AppleWorks into several lessons, it is easy to N
Lplace your students into a segment that meets their needs. The tapes also ~M
Kallow students to work at their own pace. The three students who used the K
Iprogram in my class also liked the cardboard overlays that let them look N
right above the keyboard for the list of commands they needed in AppleWorks.
LI plan to use the program with my teaching staff this fall and the business Q
Oeducation teacher has plans to utilize the program with some of his students. H
F Except for a few reading errors made by the narrator, the program is ,
excellent and I would highly recommend it.
